Can I try scuba before getting certified?

Yes. Discover Scuba Diving gives you an introduction with an instructor. It is an experience, not a certification course.

Can I train here and finish my dives on vacation?

Yes. With a referral course, you complete the knowledge and pool portions here, then finish your required open water dives with a qualified dive centre at your destination. Compare your training options.

What personal equipment will I need?

Course students bring or purchase a mask, snorkel, fins and boots. Visit the shop for help with fit and review your course page for its equipment inclusions.

What if I am already certified but feel rusty?

A refresher or pool practice session can help you return to diving. See the available options.

Learning to Dive

New to scuba? These are the questions we hear most often.

Can I try scuba before signing up for a certification course?

Yes. Try Scuba is $119, is available from age 10, and is booked by appointment.

What is the Open Water Referral course?

It lets you complete the academic and pool portions with Scuba 2000, then finish your four certification dives at another destination.

The Referral course is $545.95 CAD. PADI eLearning takes approximately 8–10 hours and must be completed before pool training. Pool training is approximately five hours each day over a weekend.

Your four destination certification dives and any receiving dive centre fees are arranged and paid separately.

Can I complete the entire Open Water certification with Scuba 2000?

Yes. Full Open Water certification is $879 CAD and includes the certification-dive portion.

What is the minimum age to start Open Water training?

Age 10. Junior-diver requirements and supervision rules apply to younger students.

Contact the shop if you are registering a child so we can confirm the correct course format.

Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes. Open Water students need basic swimming ability and comfort in the water.

If you are unsure whether you meet the course requirements, contact us before registering.

What happens if I answer yes on the medical questionnaire?

Let the shop know before training. Depending on the answer, medical clearance may be required before you participate.

If needed, we can direct you to a dive physician.

What personal equipment do I need for my course?

You need your own mask and snorkel. Masks and snorkels are not provided and cannot be rented.

Fins and boots may be rented for $50 for the weekend. If you purchase a complete mask, snorkel, fins and boots set from Scuba 2000, you receive $100 off the set price.

Can I book private Open Water training?

Yes. Private training is an additional $300 and is arranged by phone for a preferred date and time.

What should I take after Open Water?

That depends on the kind of diving you want to do. Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Nitrox and specialty courses are common next steps.

Yes. Scuba 2000 offers Advanced Open Water training locally.

How does the Nitrox course work?

Complete the eLearning first, then complete the practical portion with us.

The practical session covers gas analysis, MOD, cylinder labelling and dive-computer setup.

Do you offer specialty and professional-level training?

Yes. We offer a range of specialty, continuing-education and professional training options.

Prerequisites vary by course, so contact us or check the course page before registering.

I have not dived for a while. Should I take a refresher?

A refresher is a good option when your skills feel rusty or you have been away from diving.

Contact the shop and we will help you choose the appropriate refresher before your next course or trip.

How much is Dive Team membership?

$149 CAD per year.

Membership includes ongoing member benefits, eligible discounts and one included scuba refresher per membership year. Conditions apply.

When are Dive Team pool sessions?

7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

Check the current pool schedule before visiting and follow the equipment requirements shown with the session.

Is a refresher included with membership?

Yes. One scuba refresher is included per membership year.

Can Dive Team discounts be combined with other discounts?

No. Discounts do not stack. The lowest valid price or applicable offer is used.

Rental pricing and availability can vary by equipment and rental period.

What scuba equipment can I rent?

We rent core scuba equipment including BCDs, regulators, computers, exposure protection and tanks.

We do not rent dive lights, compasses, DSMBs or spools. See the Rental page for the current equipment list and rates.

Do I need a certification to rent a drysuit?

Yes. You must be drysuit certified to rent a drysuit.

How do I pay for rental equipment?

Rental equipment is paid upfront and a card must be kept on file.

Are tanks included for Scuba 2000 course students?

Yes. Tanks required for the course are included for Scuba 2000 course students.

Can course students rent personal-fit equipment?

Fins and boots may be rented for $50 for the weekend.

Masks and snorkels are not provided and cannot be rented.

How long does equipment servicing normally take?

Approximately two weeks. Timing depends on the equipment, required work and parts availability.

Rush service is available for an additional $80. Tell us about any upcoming trip when you drop off your gear.

Does my regulator need a full service or a check-up?

If it has been more than two years since the last service, plan on a full service.

If it is within two years, we can perform a $75 check-up. If the regulator fails the check-up, a full service is required. Labour is $45 per stage and parts are additional.

Do you provide a service warranty or loaner equipment?

Yes, subject to conditions. Scuba 2000 offers a 30-day service warranty. Loaner equipment is available subject to availability and conditions.

Do I need a certification to get an air fill?

Yes. Bring proof of scuba certification for air fills.

Do I need a Nitrox certification for a Nitrox fill?

Yes. Proof of Nitrox certification is required for Nitrox fills.

What does my cylinder need before it can be filled?

Your cylinder must have a current visual inspection and current hydrostatic test.

It must also pass our pre-fill checks and stay within its rated working pressure.

Should I contact the shop before requesting a custom blend or Trimix?

Yes. Contact us before bringing cylinders for custom Nitrox, oxygen or Trimix blends.

Tell us the required blend, cylinder size, number of cylinders and preferred pickup date so we can confirm availability and turnaround.
