The SS1 is a combined safe second and BC power inflator. It replaces a separate octopus and its hose with one unit on the BC inflator hose, and Atomic Aquatics designed it to breathe as easily as a primary second stage.

Air sharing

Atomic Aquatics notes that air sharing with an SS1 differs from a standard octopus. The donor switches to the SS1 and passes the primary second stage to the diver who is out of air, because the SS1 sits on the shorter BC hose and the donor keeps control of buoyancy.

Service and warranty

Atomic Aquatics sets the service interval for the SS1 at 2 years, or sooner with heavy use (see Atomic's warranty terms for the dive limit). It carries Atomic's limited lifetime warranty, which is not contingent on proof of service.
