Build on those foundations as you prepare to conduct core PADI courses and progress toward the Instructor Examination.

Separate assessment
Instructor Examination
PADI Instructor Examiners evaluate your readiness. Completing the IDC prepares you for this assessment; passing the IE is required for the instructor rating.
Scuba 2000's program is 80 hours. Contact us for the next intake, preparation requirements and the separate IE schedule.
What you will develop
Make your teaching count.
Good instruction combines clear explanations, useful demonstrations and close attention to each student's progress.
Explain clearly.
Organize dive theory into focused presentations. Check understanding and give feedback students can use.
Coach in the water.
Develop skill demonstrations and student management in confined and open water.
Act professionally.
Apply PADI standards, risk management and sound judgment. Explore the business of diving and responsible course counselling.
Before you begin
Check your starting point.
Send us your certification history and logged dives so we can review your entry route and preparation.
To enter the IDC
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Hold PADI Divemaster or a qualifying dive leadership certification.
- Have been a certified diver for at least six months.
- Have at least 60 logged dives.
- Have CPR and first aid training completed within the past 24 months.
- Have physician clearance for diving dated within the past 12 months.
Before your instructor rating
You need at least 100 logged dives to attend the IE, along with successful completion of the required instructor development training.
You also need the Emergency First Response Instructor qualification, or a qualifying equivalent. EFR Instructor training can be completed during your instructor training.
